2nd most famous temple in Jharkhand after Baba Baidyanath Dham (what the manager said) is Naulakha Temple. This temple has a very interesting history. A Queen who’s husband and son died an unusual death and then this queen met a saint Balananda Brahmchari in Tapovan, who advised her to build a temple and later she was buried in the same temple after her death. The Queen is Charushila of Pathuria Ghat King’s family from Kolkata. Her husband and son got untimely dead and left her behind.
The name Naulakha was kept because the Queen spend 9 lakhs to build this temple but the actual name of the temple is “Yugal Temple”. Construction of the temple started in 1936 and finished in 1941. It took a long time to build the temple because of the massive architectural details on the walls and tombs. The temple has idols of lordess Radha and lord Krishan and the temple is 146 feet high with very beautiful architecture. This temple is located at just 2 kms away from city centre tower chowk. The Architecture of the temple resembles to that of Ramakrishna Math, Belur, Kolkata.
Reaching to Naulakha Temple:
- Take an auto rickshaw
Anyone can take an auto-rickshaw from any part of the city for anywhere from 50 -100 Rs but if you take auto rickshaw from the auto-rickshaw stand which is near old Meena bazaar, it will be for 50 or 60 Rs (as stated by clerk of auto-rickshaw stand). There are not much sharing auto-rickshaws to offer you this service.
- Take a rickshaw
You can also take traditional rickshaw from any part of the city. I took a rickshaw from auto-rickshaw stand and paid 30 Rs. for the ride. I suppose taking rickshaw was more fun, as i could see more things because of open structure of rickshaws.Naulakha temple is a must go place if you plan a visit to Baba Baidyanath Dham, Deoghar.
